John was called to the Bar in 2001 and practices principally in the area of commercial disputes.
Prior to being called to the Bar, John practised as a solicitor in Australia, principally in Brisbane in the 1980s and 1990s, including as a Partner in Dispute Resolution with a national law firm (1992-2001). In addition, John worked as a senior lawyer with an international law firm in Tokyo, Japan (1988-1990).
John holds degrees in Arts and Law from the University of Queensland and the degree of Master of Law from the University of Cambridge.
John’s commercial practice encompasses advising on and acting in disputes in Contract (including related equitable and statutory claims), Property and Finance, Professional Negligence, Administrative Law (including Judicial Review), Corporations (including directors’ duties and preference claims), Insolvency (corporate and personal), Estates, Building and Construction (including domestic and international arbitrations) and Disciplinary proceedings.
In his practice, John has appeared in a range of Courts and Tribunals, principally in Queensland, including the Federal Court, the Supreme Court, the District Court, the Planning and Environment Court, the Land Court and QCAT as well as in mediations.
