JAMES BYRNES

Prior to being called to the Bar, James was a Senior Associate at Clayton Utz in Brisbane. James also worked in London as an Associate in the commercial disputes group at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and as an in-house litigation lawyer at Deloitte.

James has a broad range of experience in civil litigation, with particular expertise in commercial disputes and professional negligence. His practice includes contractual disputes, fiduciary duties, breach of trust, bankruptcy and insolvency, wills and estates, trade practices, property disputes and judicial review.

While he was a solicitor, James assisted in a successful application for an Anton Piller order and worked on major disputes between mining joint venturers, which involved defending a claim for injunctive relief.

In addition to his practice at the Bar, James tutors Equity and Trusts at the Queensland University of Technology. James has published a number of legal works, including as a co-author of a chapter in Joint Ventures Law in Australia (3rd edition) on fiduciary obligations between parties to unincorporated joint ventures.
